Recent Fitness Activities
Ever since having the boys my fitness activities started slacking. I started working out a few different times after having Roman, but I would always end up not sticking with something and then quitting altogether. That is until I saw something new or different workouts that "I thought I could do and stick with", which like before I would end up quitting. It started happening again after Axel was here and that's when I finally realized my problem. For starters, I wasn't giving anything enough time to work for me and that's a common mistake that not just me, but several make. Just because you don't see results or the scale dropping doesn't mean you should throw in the towel too quickly.
The other thing I realized with myself is that I was trying too hard to find something that I loved to do to become fit and that for me was a mistake also. I'm not meaning any sports (sports are just not for me...I've never been good at anything like that and really I would probably end up hurting myself if I tried) because those can be enjoyable to a lot of people. What I mean is running miles, doing intense workouts, and eating right. In reality, going into any new lifestyle like those isn't going to be exciting or fun. Instead of trying so hard to find something that was going to be enjoyable right then for me I realized that none of it was going to be. That's what makes this so hard. It's not just me. It's not just you. I've followed so many fitness people and everyone has their struggles.
Once I got that through my head I started focusing on things that I would like to love! Like being more fit, having a healthier lifestyle and appearance, and setting a better example for my boys.
I've always wanted to get into running and one day start doing more 5K's and bigger runs! It's really a process for me that is so discouraging. I'm still at 17:30 min for ONE MILE... My shins get really bad fast. I know for one that the extra weight I'm carrying isn't helping that issue. That's why I am focusing on weight loss as well. If I push it too much, too fast then I'm hurting for days. Not in a good burning fat kind of way either. I kept pushing it and I had to end up quitting for a couple weeks to recover. This time around I'm keeping my time at 17:30 min this week and hoping for 16 min next week. I'm working my way up to my goals even if it may take a little longer than I would like. I've been working on finding the best route around our neighborhood and slowly adding more jogging/running into the mix without hurting myself in the process.
My jogging goal is to get a mile down to 17 min. come August and at least half of it be jogging and/or running. As long as my shins go along with this.
I talked about my workouts through Fitness Blender in my last fitness blog and I've been sticking with those as much as I can. I'll be switching them up soon to start off a new month. My thought on the workouts is that I want to do workouts each week to target the areas I need it most while changing them up so I don't get too bored (again these aren't going to be fun either way) and I want to find the ones that burn and leave me feeling the burn the next day! As of now I have workouts planned Monday-Friday. It's definitely a lot, but I have a lot of target areas right now.
Mondays: I want to focus on total body or fat burning cardio.
Tuesdays: I want to focus on butt and thighs workouts.
Wednesdays: I want to focus on abs and give my legs a break.
Thursdays: I want to focus on more cardio so I'm working on multiple problem areas at once more often. https://www.fitnessblender.com/videos/at-home-cardio-workout-for-people-who-get-bored-easily-fun-bodyweight-cardio
Fridays: I want to focus mostly on making my arms more lean, but I also like to do a little of yoga for flexibility and stress relief.
This doesn't happen too often, but when I find the time and I'm not too sore I like to throw in a little timed jump roping. I haven't done this in years, and just like jogging it clears my head and I get a little bit of a break from life and stress when I'm having a rougher week.
My helpful companions are my Apple Watch and My fitness pal.
My watch keeps up with my steps, my stand goal, exercise goal, and move goal. It also keeps up with my jogs and tells me my time, distance, and calories I've burned.
For my fitness pal app I track my calorie intake as well as my exercises and water intake!
With starting all of this and dreading it in the beginning and just knowing it wasn't going to last... I've actually been looking forward to my jogs and feeling the post workout burn! This makes me realize the way to love working out is pushing yourself past all of the dreading, hurting, and negative thoughts you may have about yourself, and then I found out how to love working on my fitness.
