Garden in August

For the most part, our garden has done really well. In the month of August I've noticed more wear and tear with a couple of bug infestations, a bunny thief, and the weather not making up its mind on if it wants to be super hot and dry or downpour with rain for days! I still have been able to harvest a lot of yummy vegetables.

As for our strawberries, I don't think we have had any luck with them this year. It's such a bummer, but there's always next year!

Tomatoes have been very slow for us this year. I see all of our family and friends (who have gardens) post their pictures with all of their tomatoes.. I'm not going to lie I'm a little jealous. 😂
We all love fresh garden tomatoes (especially our little boy, Roman. He eats them like apples!) It's been a little disappointing on how many we have gotten. I'm thinking I didn't plant them in a spot that gets enough sunshine, because they are taking forever to turn red! That's where our "bunny thief" comes in and steals them. 😤

We've just started getting some cherry tomatoes and they're delicious! I only planted two of those, so we still don't get too many of them like I would want.

Our cucumbers are slowing down on us and we aren't getting as many anymore. On usual weeks we get 1-3 cucumbers, which still isn't bad for our one plant that has spread on us and is vining off everywhere. We've had some issues with the leaves of our cucumbers turning yellow and acting like they're dying out. A couple of our cucumbers have stayed yellow and are as bright as a ripe summer squash. Any ideas of this issue? I've tried reading up on blogs about it, but haven't had any luck. Some suggest it could be from getting too much water, which could be the problem with this weather!

Our zucchini and summer squash have been doing excellent!  We've been getting 2-4 of them each week! I'll be blogging about the different ways I like to prepare our veggies for side dishes here soon!

Okra has also been amazing. With the extra from our neighbors and our own couple of plants, I'm stocking up to pickle them. I'll be sure to blog it! 😁

Our first spaghetti squash is growing. It looks like we'll only be getting one, but this still excites me to know that we grew one!

We've had our ups and downs with this first garden of ours, but we're both so proud! It still is so rewarding picking fresh organic food from our backyard!
