Recent Reads
I've been reading so many "recent reads" blogs lately. Since I've found myself picking up a book anytime in the day that I can, I thought I would start blogging about my reads.
I wanted to start branching out and finding new authors this past month, but ended up reading either from the same authors or picking up some books that I haven't read in a while.
"The Best of Me" by Nicholas Sparks
I know...it's pretty common and repetitive when someone says they read Nicholas Sparks, but to this day he is still one of my absolute favorite authors. I love every book in one way or another. "The Notebook" was the first I have read by him and it's still one of my favorites. It has always stayed with me. This book was good, but not my typical read. I get that usually Nicholas Sparks books can be sad, but this was a little too much for me. It makes you (like always) feel for each character, but I also found myself not really liking any of the characters. I would say this is an "okay read", but only because I love how he writes his stories. This probably isn't something I would want to reread unless for some reason I forgot it.
Instead of going with a new author next, I made the mistake of picking up the first Harry Potter book and I've been stuck back on this series ever since. It hasn't been really a "mistake" because I love this series so much. The writing by J. K. Rowling is incredible, and so much imagination was put into these books. Although I haven't finished the them all yet, I'll still include a little about each one that I've read the past couple of weeks.
"Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone"
This is the first book, and the first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry. This book explains what happened to Harry when he was a baby, why he had to grow up with his awful aunt and uncle, and why he is so special. It also introduces a lot of the main characters that will mostly be in the complete series. The movies are good, but the books are even better. There was so much more (especially towards the end) in the books that I feel was a bummer they left out of the movie. This book fills you in about the school and how things are ran. It also introduces their sport, Quidditch. I'm sure most have already read this series and/or already know all about these, but this book starts the series off with excitement, (again...a lot of) imagination, and keeps things interesting to where I don't want to put the book down!
With "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" I feel like this book explains a lot more of the history from the past and how some of the characters are the way they are. It has a lot twists, and the story line of it is great. This was one of my favorites from the movies to watch. This one starts easing you into what is going to come of the next books. It makes you want to keep reading.
"Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" might just be my favorite. They get longer and longer as the series continues. This one took me a little longer to read (I get pretty busy with the kiddos and haven't had as much time in the early morning or late evenings lately), but still kept me turning the pages. This one introduces more characters and some that you don't like too much. This one had such a huge twist to me. If you watch the movies first, then it's already ruined for you. If not...it's quite a shock. This one has a mixture of happy and sad moments. The added "second chance" to fix things was a great bonus to this story and I'm sad the movie left out some important parts of this book.
I feel that no matter what age you are, you can still enjoy these books for sure! I'm halfway through the fourth (I'll be continuing from where I'm at with these in my next "recent reads" blog) and even though it is also a page turner I'm trying to branch out a little and fit some other reads into the mix. What are some of your favorites that I should check out?
