Roman Eli // 5 Years Old

Roman Eli // 5 Years Old

It's such an odd feeling thinking that my little baby is 5 years old. Time really gets away from you and makes you miss those newborn days when you could just snuggle them forever and that's what they wanted too! Then fast forward to now and it's honestly so hard seeing him become so independent and wanting his space to do his own thing. This is my last full year having this little boy home with me full time until he becomes a big boy that starts kindergarten. That's so hard to imagine, but I'm going to cherish every single day I've had him home with me!
Roman turned 5 on August 14th and we celebrated with family and friends that following weekend with a Captain Underpants *eye roll* party that he chose and was so excited for. I'm late on posting this blog, but it's been a whirlwind kind of month to say the least! This past weekend we celebrated his day again by taking him and his little brother to Chuck E Cheese for pizza and games. He had such a good time and played as many games as possible!
He has become such a big kid and loves learning! He can now write all his letters (lowercase & uppercase),  read some sight words, and he is starting to write a lot of words! He can write/read all of our names.. Including his full name! He honestly blows me away everyday with the new things he learns and shows me.
We've had a few issues that I've mentioned in the past about our little Roman being super shy and having some social issues because of it. He's great around other kids, but clams up around any other adults! We know this isn't going to be good when school starts and because we want it to go more smoothly with his future teacher, we recently decided to put him in beginners exercise/karate. That way he can get closer to another adult (his instructor) and learn to come out of his shell more. The first class wasn't a success, but the second one was so much better. It definitely is going to take some time, but it was a kind of feeling.. Like I could breathe again when I saw him start to smile and try doing what the other kids were doing. I've been so worried about him and I already feel like a lot of that weight is off my chest as I see him start to enjoy it more. Again it will take time, but progress was all I needed. HUGE props to his awesome instructor for being so patient with us and to his incredible Daddy for getting out there with him to help take the ease off of Roman.
Roman is such a loving, caring, and mean big brother all wrapped up in one! Axel still admires his big brother and pretty much copies everything Roman does. I thought I would have some more time before the fights started in, but boy was I wrong. I'm also so surprised we haven't had more injuries than we have had. Roman tells Axel to jump and Axel is flying through the air.. Ha!
I've loved every minute of watching Roman grow and learn everyday and can't wait to see the progress he makes in a year time!
Again, Happy Birthday our big 5 year old! We love you and are so proud of the boy you are!
