Bits of Sunshine // December 21st, 2019
Where do I even begin? In all the chaos of this year, all my months are meshing together and every day I feel a tinge in my stomach of how much time I'm letting slip away without savoring it enough. I think all of us moms feel that at one time or another. I'm guilty of it more than I would like. It's a nice reminder until it sends you into a full-blown whiny baby nasty mode. I've mention Roman quite a lot lately with him turning 6 and starting Kindergarten. He is now on Christmas break and very excited about it. Axel, on the other hand, realizes he's not getting by playing with all his brother's things like he normally does when Roman is at school. Haha! The fights have already hit and we're so ready for them to open presents on Christmas to have a little peace... At least for an hour or so. Haha.
They have both been hitting some awesome milestones. Axel continues to learn his ABC's, can count to 20, knows all basic colors, knows all basic shapes, and potty training has made a turn in the right direction! FINALLY! Please, no shaming here I thought it would be much easier with the second one. Man was I wrong! We've had peeing down for so long (that is without bottoms on), but with undies on he would just pee in them. It took so long, but he put his stubbornness aside and started figuring it out. After that, the step of wearing undies out with him was easy peasy. Unlike his brother, he hasn't acted scared of public restrooms and hasn't had any accidents in the car yet! The pooping, on the other hand, has been a nightmare (please send help!) and he would much prefer a diaper or even undies to poop in over the potty. You win some and you lose some. Baby steps I guess.
Roman is doing better and better with school. More of his papers are getting done in class instead of him bringing home half done papers. I sat down with them both earlier tonight (as I am typing this) and read a Christmas bedtime story. It was crazy thinking back to reading to my 6lb. 2oz. newborn his first bedtime story to now taking turns reading the pages with him and hearing his little voice just voom through page after page. He is such a smart little guy! The social skills are still an uphill climb with him, but he's still hiking up it.
His two night a week karate/exercise class has now become more karate as he is working towards his first belt, a white belt! We know it will take some time, but seeing him work so hard in class and at home on his routine is so exciting plus the bonus confidence I see in him when he masters a step is so rewarding as his parent!
I wrote in a previous blog that these "Bits of Sunshine" posts would come and to those who don't know us personally (or do, but don't care about it) I know these can seem boring to you, but for me, they're little life documents to cherish. XO
