The Grinch Tree | Christmas

 The Grinch Tree | Christmas

Christmas may not be my favorite holiday and I am starting to turn into a grinch myself during this season, but there is something about decorating your entire house that brings the festive side of me to life! The boys changing their trees this year was a pull at the heartstrings, but also super exciting and something to do (that kept me busy) to keep my mind from other things.
Although, I will miss Axel's woodland tree in his room... I had to come to terms with my little growing up and since it is no longer a woodland nursery and now a big boy dinosaur room it was time for a change. With that, I wanted to keep in mind with both trees (Roman's tree will be in a blog soon!) that they are growing kids and change their minds at a drop of a hat! So I decided to have them pick festive themes that can stay for years and years to come!
Axel loves the grinch (cartoon & Jim Carrey) year round so this one made sense for him! He chose a beautiful white tree and it is the first white tree in our house. The boys trees are only 4 ft. so filling them wasn't too difficult to do, but this idea is super cute for any size!

Although a lot of these ornaments I found at Hobby Lobby the rest was pieced together from Amazon or handmade by us! You can see more about our hand painted ornaments in the Ornament Making blog and globe ornaments in the Globe Ornaments blog. We had so much fun with them and I'm super proud of them especially the painted ones that add so much character to the trees!

For the tree topper I got the idea from Desi Perkins to do the Grinch arm coming out of the tree, but when my husband and I were looking through inspo pictures we loved the idea of a Santa hat. You will see from Roman's tree we also did a hat as a topper so the idea of doing hats for both was even more perfect! So with that being said, I was sold on the Santa hat, but still wanted to try my crafty hand at the grinch arm. I took Desi's advice and used tin foil to mold a hand. I could not for the life of me find any of the grinch fur locally and online was either super pricy for this time of year (and you of course have to have a minimum order of more than I would ever need) or wasn't going to arrive when I needed it to. So I found this Grinch Set with gloves and hat with beard on Amazon. The glove was perfect for the hand and I actually used the hat that came with it for the sleeve! I already had a hat for the topper hat. Then the fur I cut off the hat from the beard I reused as fillers in my globe ornaments. So the set was completely used and it turned out so adorable! I also got this tree skirt from Amazon too.

You can watch the decorating process HERE. Axel is in love with it and I'm super proud of this one!
