My Newest Adventure | Cross Stitching

If I didn't already have enough going I decided to branch out to yet another hobby. Growing up I had family who cross-stitched and/or did similar hobbies. Although I never really got into it I did pick up a little knitting and crocheting years ago. I made a couple items for my babies and then got into sewing. I never was brave enough to do actual clothes but I sewed a few baby blankets, a twin-sized blanket, pacifier clips, and even some infant car seat canopies. I was in full baby mode at the time pregnant with my second son. I really miss it but rarely find the time to even pick any of it back up. I look at cross-stitching as taking a step back in that direction. I had been eying some cross-stitch designs for a while. I kept moving my office space and beauty space around and was having a hard finding the exact decor I wanted. So I took the jump and bought a design to create decor I would love in my space. I've bought a few more since but wanted to share the pieces I have completed so far this year with this new adventure.

Scream • Ghost Face

by

My first project was for my fave, Ghost Face and I completed it the same time 'Scream 5' hit theaters. It was a learning experience and took me longer than I thought it would. This design had 7-9 floss shades so it was on the rather easy side there but was a little challenging being on black Aida, especially being my first project. I had to really take my time to learn and do a steady job with it. The pattern was super easy to follow and the shop owner was incredibly kind. She has a lot of fun designs and I highly recommend her shop. The only flaw I felt this piece had was the mouth. I feel I may have skipped a stitch or two making it look a tad larger. It honestly would be an easy fix as there aren't too many stitches to the lower mouthpart but it doesn't bother me. The process was a lot of fun and it was exciting slowly seeing his face come to life!

Bloody Heart • V-Day

by ByMegC

I took a break from a few of the other designs I'm working on (I'll share those soon!) to work on a Valentine's project. I put a lot of time into this one as I rushed to have it by V-day. I joke that it almost burnt me out on cross stitching but if I'm honest I haven't picked up the needles for a couple weeks now. Ha. This was fun to play with color. The others I had been working on all only had neutrals so far so it was a jump. I wasn't ready for another black Aida design but since I decided to not include the wording from the design I wanted the heart to stand out more on black. I loved the bloody valentine's aesthetic this month and found this design to be spot on with it. Besides the rush of wanting to complete it on time, I also had a couple other bumps in the road with this design. The pattern itself was another easy to follow with not a lot of struggle there but since I am still learning I underestimated the size of this design. I for some reason thought the measurements were a lot smaller when going into it. I decided to start in the corner versus the center of the Aida sheet with the idea of using the other half for a different design. Long story short, I stitched almost one of the heart halves before realizing I would run out of room. Project devastation for sure, but I powered through and restarted the project in the correct way. The only other issue I had was that I took the wording out which meant I had to stitch around it to make the project look finished without it. The closeness in shade with each red was a challenge too. I'm pretty sure more than a handful of stitches are the wrong red placement but thankfully with this design I was able to go with it and wing it. Overall was a fun one and think it will fit perfectly with the others.

I've really been enjoying cross-stitching. A break was needed from the last but I'm excited to jump back in.   I can't wait to show you what I have planned and when they're finished. I'm slowly getting the decor I want and it makes me happy seeing them in my space.
