Recent Reads

It's been awhile since I've done a Recent Reads, but I've been so busy with holiday things and I haven't been picking up too many books. These are some that I've read for the past two  months or so.

The Host
You probably know Stephenie Meyer from the Twilight series. This is another book by her. I believe there is a movie for this one now, but I've not seen it. I have picked this book up(I own it) literally ten times and just couldn't get through it!I'm still a fan of the Twilight books and I've been wanting to reread those, but I'm wanting to finish out the other series I'm rereading at the moment first. I bought this book after finishing the last Twilight book. Since then this time through is the first time Ive read the whole thing! It really isn't a bad book, it's quite interesting and well written. It can be very slow at times and drag out for too long in some parts to make me lose interest, but I'm glad I finally finished it! To sum it up an alien species is overtaking the world and being placed in human bodies (which are the hosts) to make earth a better place. This sounds cheesy and not like something I would read, but the humans trying to to survive and the love story parts make you turn the pages to figure out how and who survives. After halfway through I guessed a lot of the ending and was pretty much correct besides a few details, but by then it was a page turner that I was going to finish! If you like stories about aliens taking over and some wild, out there stories about their pasts then this is definitely a book for you. If you like love stories, interesting plots, and can stick with a long book without getting too bored then I would check this out also.

Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire
I've been on such a Harry Potter kick and I keep wanting to pick up the next. You'll be seeing at least one HP book through my Recent Reads until I finish the last. They're all so interesting and books that you don't want to put down. There are pros and cons about this one. The Goblet of Fire in the book is interesting, but I feel it can be slow at times. I do like the extra action the competition has, plus the ending is intense and makes you want to jump into the next book!

The Girl On The Train
I've seen this book, but never knew anything about it. It was a nice change with suspense, twists, and never knowing where the story is actually going to end up. It was hard to like any of the characters, for real though, they're all a little crazy. I kinda liked that, so that the ending could end anyway and I wouldn't be that disappointed. It was never what I expected and I liked being able to really think hard about the plot to figure things out. This isn't something I would normally reach for, but it has me wanting more mysteries and suspenseful books. I really like how this book was written and it was an easy page-turner.

Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them
Quiddith Through The Ages
Both of these short books are of course, Harry Potter themed.
While at the library with the boys I came across these and since I've been on that HP kick, I thought why not? They're super short and can be read in 20-30 minutes. It was interesting to learn more about Qudditch, but that one was more on the boring side for me compared to the book about the Fantasic Beasts. You read about different mythical animals in the actual HP books, but to actual read about how they look, where they live, old stories about them, etc. is pretty interesting. These aren't for everyone, but if you're a huge fan and haven't already read them they're an easy and fast read.

The Tales Of Beedle The Bard
The last book is written by the author (J.K. Rowling) of the
HP books. I enjoyed this book the most out of the three small HP  themed books. This book has short stories about old witches and wizards and a little history of magical things. They're like short bedtime tales that have some frightening twists to them. A couple of the stories have been mentioned in the HP books and movies, but reading them yourself is pretty cool.

I know I didn't list too many for such a long period between my last book blog, but it's been hard finding the extra time to read. I'm always looking for new books to read, so list some of your favorites below!
I'm wanting to brand out to more mystery books and I'm also getting into the mood for love stories again.
