Elf on the Shelf Shenanigans // December 2019
Elf on the Shelf Shenanigans // December 2019
Realistically for my boys, the best places are "funny" places where I may get some giggles. Buddy crammed in our candy dish eating candy, for instance, made them laugh. Oh and don't forget to TP your tree. That one is always a hit in our house!
He brought 'Grinch' pens for the boys to make out their Christmas lists to Santa. Our boys are obsessed with the 'Grinch' and we're still having to play the new cartoon version and Jim Carrey version daily! Then like every year we leave their lists with Buddy and that night he takes them with him to the North Pole!
Every year our Elf, Buddy, comes to our house to spend the month of December with us like most Elf on the Shelves like to do. In our situation, our Elf was passed down to our boys from their Mammy and Papa who had Buddy at their house every year for the boy's older cousins. Since they were getting older and weren't around as often Buddy was given to us to come out every December. Although we didn't get to personally name him he is super special because he not only has been around for our kids but also our nieces and nephew!
Buddy brings a letter with him each year explaining his stay with us. Our boys are 6 years old and 3 years old so this year was a fun one where they really looked forward to it each day!
I not only wanted to share a little with you but maybe give you some ideas for next year (or if you come across this blog years to come in the month of December) if you're starting 'Elf on the Shelf' or you're just running out of some ideas like I normally do. I swear Buddy sometimes likes to sit in the same spot for a couple days and I'm not ashamed to say that. Haha!
I also sit out 'The Elf on the Shelf' book under the tree when he comes and this year he brought a little stocking making activity for the boys too.

This year I had seen a super cute idea from another person post about putting the elf in a jar so your child can actually hold them. This was such a heart-melting day because little Axel was so excited to finally be able to "play" with Buddy. We got to take him out of town with us and they loved it.

Sometimes I have to get creative and think of simple or new things. Dry erase markers, adhesive stickers, tape, etc. help with these ideas. I tried the "floor is lava" this year but completely forgot to get a picture of it! Thankfully I vlogged most of December for Vlogmas so you can check those out!
I usually tend to avoid any of the "Elf on the Shelf" merchandise because I'm not THAT serious about it (I don't have to have a branded sweater for our elf, but you do you) but they won me over with the branded cereal. Roman loves his cereal and that is sometimes the only breakfast I can get him to eat before school so this was a win!
We wanted to have some extra fun with the boys and while picking up a few things at Walmart (ugh) I came across a box of faux snowballs. They had so much fun with this and I'm pretty sure James and I were attacked with snowballs for the rest of the day! Haha!
Lastly, we stick to traditions that we do with Buddy every year. He brings candy canes in someway, he spends a day with our wooden Rudolph, makes the boys pancakes or waffles (Mickey Mouse waffles this year. Axel's favorite!), and lastly bringing the boys a present that just happens to be pajamas for his last day with us Christmas Eve!
