Read in 2020 // Part 2

I thought I would have more time during this quarantine to read, but I have found myself busy in many other things. While I will get back into my books I wanted to share the ones I finished last month! XO

I have seen this book recommended over and over. Then like it was meant to be this one happened to be in one of my book clubs I am following this year. I love a good thriller with twists! This one kept the twists and secrets coming, but I couldn't attach to any of the characters. The ending was a little underwhelming while being understood.
You have the "perfect" couple next door, the better than thou inlaws, the stressed new dad, the sleep-deprived new mom, and an infant that goes missing in the night. It's a mystery you're trying to follow and figure from the beginning. I think I fell into this one head first because it was my first thriller in a while.

3.5/5

I have to say intense romance isn't my thing. I love plots and stories. If you're giving me a romance I want a good story line to keep me turning pages. I loved the writing of this book and didn't want to put it down even though some (God most of the whole book) parts were cringe. I blame falling for the characters that kept me into this book as well as learning how someone with Asperger's struggles to enjoy a romantic relationship. It was eye opening in some areas and something that left me feeling happy that I picked this book up. I wish there was more of the story than what there was, but I am looking forward to picking up the next book in the series. This book I originally thought was the book of one of my other book clubs, but come to find out it was really the second book in the series so I read this one to be caught up on the story line before picking up the next. If you like romance I would recommend this read.

4/5

This book choice happened to be a pick from two of the book clubs I follow so that was a win-win! I loved the modern, new age writing of this book. This was another that I fell in love with some of the characters. It had some twists and stayed a page turner. This isn't my typical read so I never knew what to expect from this book. Even when I reached over half the book I still had no idea how this was going to wrap up. I appreciate the writing and how sensitive subjects are brought to light. It's a good read to "check yourself" on how you think of things or how others may feel in certain situations.  I love the strong female dynamics in this story and how this author keeps your heart-tugging from character to character. This story that addresses race, successful women, relationships, friendships, and tough decisions may kick you in the gut a few times, but it's worth the read in my opinion.

4.5/5

"Femi makes three, you know. Three and they label you a serial killer."

-Korede is bitter. How could she not be? Her sister, Ayoola, is many things: the favorite child, the beautiful one, possibly sociopathic. And now Ayoola's third boyfriend in a row is dead. -

The true-crime junkie in myself thoroughly enjoyed this read. It was an interesting writing style and another that I kept guessing what would happen next to be wrong yet again. It was a shorter read with short chapters, but it kept things fast-paced and never boring. Every detail was interesting and even though the main character was a little detached it was impossible not to feel for her. This story holds true to "family first" even before yourself. This book was left somewhat of a cliffhanger that I enjoyed. It keeps you thinking!
