Snowman Tree | Christmas

 Snowman Tree | Christmas

If you read one of my last posts about Axel's Grinch Tree then you may already know that the boys changed their tree themes this year. While I jumped head first into planning the Grinch tree I had a harder time with Roman's Snowman Tree. It was mainly Romans 7 year old demands that did it. Ha!

He chose a black Christmas tree, but like I mentioned in the last tree blog, I wanted the boys to pick themes that go with the season and can stay the same for years to come. Instead of doing a theme that they're currently "into," but may not be in a years time. With Axel choosing the Grinch.. Roman made his mind up soon after with telling me he wanted a snowman theme with only blue. Do you know how hard it was to find things to go with this tree?! It even took some convincing to get him to agree to add pops of white to it! Haha. I told him it's not much of a snowman tree without some white for snow!

To take up a majority of the space I bought some filler ball ornaments from Hobby Lobby. We went with the light blue set that came with shiny, glittery, and also clear ornaments. Roman helped decorate with those, but then lost interest. Ha! That's how it was with both boys. It gave me time to work more in depth on this tree. With Axel's I had to make the arm coming out of the tree which took some time, but with Roman's I added ribbon around the tree which took awhile with how OCD I was about it.
Did I mention I had such a hard time finding any snowman ornaments with blue (all were snowmen with red.. Roman wasn't having it), but I also could not find a tree skirt that I was envisioning with this theme. I had the idea of the navy and white checkered pattern and was so happy to find both ribbon and material at Hobby Lobby that worked out perfectly! With that let me explain the super easy way I went about this tree skirt...

So all I took was a yard of fabric (for reference this is a skirt for a 4 ft. tree), scissors, matching ribbon, glue gun, and glue sticks for it. The better (and long lasting) approach would be to sew this, which I will probably end up doing with this project, but when in a pinch this worked and has held up nicely under his tree this season.
I had Roman's round space rug to use as reference which made the process a lot easier, but the goal is to lay out the fabric and fold in the edges to create a circle. When folding in the edges I used hot glue to secure it.
Next is cutting from the edge into the center just like a regular tree skirt so you can wrap it around the tree. I hot glued ribbon strips to create ties. You could honestly skip this whole step and cut a round hole in the center and place it over the tree base before putting the rest of the tree in the stand.
It's exactly the pattern I wanted and matched the ribbon I ran through the tree perfectly!

The only other items picked up at Hobby Lobby were the dark blue berry branches (these really made the colors pop in my opinion. I was so happy I picked these up!) and the snowflakes that went on the tree branches. The other ornaments are ones we made this year. We did Globe Ornaments and Hand Painted Ornaments. You can check out both of them. They pulled the trees together so well and since he was so picky about just the blue it was the best way to make ornaments he liked that went well with the rest of the decor!

The topper was made of a top hat I had from a past Halloween look. I used some of the ribbon I had left over to wrap around it and secured with hot glue. I added one small berry twig to it too.
This tree took a little longer than Axel's so we finished it up the next day. It was another fun one to do and Roman loves it.
