Our Trip To The Science Center | August 2021
We planned a trip to STL for Roman's 8th birthday. We went up the day before and enjoyed a nice dinner at The Old Spaghetti Factory and then settled into our hotel. This is our first birthday (boy's birthday) away from home so we had to make it special with what we normally do at home so when Roman woke up he had his birthday balloon surprise which is a birthday tradition!
Every year we go and explore St. Louis, MO Science Center. It's a huge learning, discovery, and play center with hands-on activities and a bunch of exhibits. You learn and explore everything from weather and environment to energy and maker space to the solar system with their walk across bride to Mission Mars. Axel is always so excited to see his big dinosaur "friends" which is a life-size dinosaur exhibit. It shows the T-Rex taking out another dino buddy but thankfully Axel looks past that and thinks it's so cool.
After learning about the environment and weather we headed over to learn about energy and power. The boys love tossing in the coal to show how much "power" they're creating. One of their favorites is the game room that has a bunch of games in mega form. Including Super Mario Brothers that you play with your feet.
One of our other favorites is the Discovery Play Room. It is a room filled with learning for kids as little as 1 all the way up. Due to Covid 19, it looks a little different this year. For safety precautions they currently have most of the room closed off. They instead are doing weekly classes of small numbers (we happened to catch it a day when it was just us in class!) with crafts and activities. This day we made our own spinning tops with CDs and old markers, launchers with popsicle sticks and pom-poms, and ramps made with recycled paper towel cardboard rolls and marbles. Although, they were bummed we didn't get to explore the room like we usually do they still had a great time and the workers were very kind and great with them.
Then to wrap up our exploring we go towards Mission Mars and the solar system. You take an inside bridge over the highway where you learn (and build) about the Gateway Arch, watch the traffic zoom by, and finally get to the space exhibit which the boys always love.
We always have a blast at the Science Center and we can't wait to go back soon! Guess who grabbed us with the dinosaur grabber the whole way home? Haha...
xx - Ally
