Pumpkin Carving | October 2021

If you missed my recent blog, Beggs Pumpkin Patch, make sure to check it out for the family fun we had but also where we got our yearly pumpkins from. Every year we love carving pumpkins (well myself and the kiddos do. James goes along with it each year even though he has a distaste for it. I tell him to pick a design and I'll carve it for him but he insists on helping which I appreciate but also think he secretly enjoys it but envies my carving skills. Haha) and this year we decided to keep it simple since our pumpkin photos were the ones that were going to be a little over the top instead. I'm sure you have seen the ghost trend via Instagram and TikTok? There is a catchy tune with timed videos of people dressed as ghosts with white sheets. It started last year and this year people started throwing a twist in with pumpkin heads. They wear their actual pumpkins. While I wasn't so sure at first with us having a family of larger heads... It works out since the boys both wanted "big" pumpkins at the patch this year.

Although, we chose faces for our pumpkins we still wanted to make it a fun theme and went with characters from 'The Nightmare Before Christmas,' one of my favorite Halloween AND Christmas movies. I did my take on a Sally face pumpkin while James carved Jack into his. I also carved Jacks' face into Axel's pumpkin and Oogie Boogie into Romans as per choice. They all turned out so cute!

We really did struggle with getting these to fit on our heads. This was the first year we cut them from the bottom but we actually found this to be so much easier than the normal top way and although we probably won't be doing the pumpkin head trend again anytime soon this will more than likely be the new way we cut our pumpkins. You just sit them right over the tea lights and don't have to worry about the tops caving in! I wish I would've done this sooner. With the little ones, we had to hold up the pumpkin for photos because of the weight. There's no way their little necks could hold these huge pumpkins. The photos still turned out so cute and you should check out our pumpkin head reel on Instagram. What style of pumpkins did you carve this year?
