Recent Reads of 2021

It has felt so good getting back into a healthy reading routine this year. I fell out of it last year and realized I only read a handful of books in the entire year. I wanted to share them with you and get back to these since I've been reading so much again.

★★★

I’ve never read anything quite like this book. It makes you realize the strength of our senses. While it was a unique and interesting read I had a few spells of putting it down. Some parts are too drawn out for my attention span. Although I don’t see myself ever reading it again I enjoyed the different style and I’m glad I did read it.

★★★

A classic. This was my first (besides manga) non kindle read in a while and it felt good holding a book again. I have an older copy from my mom and it’s become a comfort read. I grew up watching ‘The Lost Boys’ and reading this worn copy. It still gives me a good laugh and is a perfect pick for a light Halloween read that offers comedy, vampires, and exciting characters! I’m not sure if it’s the nostalgia for me but I know I’ll pick this one up many more times in my life to read.

★★★

My first manga in so long and it didn’t disappoint! It’s a fun, exciting tale with pirates, power, and cute characters. I may be sinking myself with this series since I’m only just now starting this 101 volume series, but hey I have a series to fill in the gaps of more serious reads or when I need something lighter. It’s never too late to start and I can’t wait to pick up the next volume!

★★★

My Halloween pick of 2021. I’ve picked up this book many times and while I enjoyed it I would always find myself too busy to get through it. I devoted the time to finish it in 2021 and did just that. It’s Stephen King, I mean a classic. While I can’t really fall for any of these characters with their awful choice making (besides Danny, of course) the way King writes still keeps me invested which is rare for me when I don’t like the characters. His writing style keeps the pages turning in a haunting, twisted, and frightening story. My paranormal loving soul absolutely loves this book and it’s worth the read even if you’ve already seen the movie.

★★★

I knew this book was going to be a cute holiday read. Maybe even a lot like watching a holiday Hallmark, but wasn’t expecting what it actually was. Sure, it was pretty predictable in the beginning but through it you constantly wonder where it could possibly go. I wish the ending was a bit more to wrap it all but It definitely has that Hallmark touch and I’m glad we got the twists and uncertainties throughout it.
