Bits of Sunshine | May-June 2022

Wow. What a couple of months. I have to say although I wasn't feeling the best - these kiddos really know how to make me feel better. That is of course after getting through that rough end of school to being home all the time transition. It's so rough. We always look forward to school being out and all of us being home together but when it first happens the shift in the house is a nightmare. Thankfully after a couple of weeks, things level out for the summer. That's where we're at now. We're adjusting our work lives to being full-time stay-at-home parents. We're also adjusting to never having a single room clean which is draining in itself. All in all, the summer is a tiring time but one I wouldn't trade for the world.

Roman - finished the second grade in May. He was so proud but quickly turned to tears at the thought of having a new teacher next year. This was a first that was not expected. It literally took a week to cheer him up for the summer. I can only imagine how rough it'll be when school starts back up. We're adjusted with it for now. In May he also lost two teeth (including finally a top tooth!) and that is no longer a fear of his. A huge win for us since the thought of losing teeth used to keep him up at night. He now realizes it's a part of getting older and he's always ready for that. I am not. June was a good month for him as well. We got to see some cousins and family. We also spent a lot of time outside in the sunshine. He grew a couple tomato plants from seeds at school (proud mom moment with the green thumb I have) and then repotted them into my garden bed. He was pretty proud too! I can't believe in a short two months this kiddo will be nine years old. It blows my mind every time I think it.

Axel - turned 6 in May. He was our little Spider-Man for the month. He had such a good birthday and a trip out of town. He went bowling for the first time, we watched a movie, and had some yummy food. I go through such a hard time with his aging, but at the same time, it's been so much fun watching him grow. For sure bittersweet. With the age of 6, this also meant Kindergarten enrollment for this next school year. We asked for kindness and patience in a teacher because we all know they will need it. Ha! He is a spitfire child and although I think he'll love school like I did, I'm excited about that. But I also know the school will probably know my face and name by heart after the year. I will for sure be on speed dial. His personality is fun but fiery. He too has been loving the summer - I mean it gives him so much extra time to pester his brother.

But in all seriousness, I'm so thankful to have this time with these two and to watch them grow up another summer. We only have so many until they are grown. <3
