Tokyo Ghoul Vol. 2 by Sui Ishida
☠ ☠ ☠ ☠ ☠
Another vol of Tokyo Ghoul down and I'm invested. The only thing I felt missing from this series in the first volume was the character development which you can see much more in this one. It's still a slow process but I feel like over time I will know more about each main character. This volume shows sadness and makes you ready for revenge. It also includes new characters to the lineup and ended with me wanting more but not feeling like they left me hanging. I appreciate that and can't wait for vol. 3.
The Invisible Life Of Addie Larue by V.E. Schwab
☠ ☠ ☠ ☠ ☠
This was such a breath of fresh air my reading needed. This book was unlike any I think I've ever read. The story itself is super interesting and the character-building was steady. It is a story that moves from the past to the present back and forth. It involves a lot of time, places, and people. I love the gradualness it continued to have throughout. What I loved most though was the actual storytelling. V.E. Schwab had me turning pages and unable to put it down. I felt already invested to know more about Addie and wanted to know her whole story but the way with words and how everything from past to present flowed together kept me reading too. I highly recommend and I've already picked up another from V.E. Schwab.
Sugar by Bernice L. Mcfadden
☠ ☠ ☠
I hate to give low ratings but this book kept me uncomfortable throughout. This was a book picked from a book club I was part of for black history month. I was excited to read it reading it was full of black history with the twist story plot of a woman struggling from her past life as a sex worker. I thought if anything that part would add either a spice to the story and/or more of an emotional element to the book. I actually really cared for the characters. Sugar - while showing scars from her past and current life she shows confidence and strength. Pearl - the lovely woman next door that takes you in as your own. I give it 3 for the character elements, but the story lost me over and over. I felt like it could have been much more but it overall left me feeling dull and depressed. I hoped for more for these characters.
Hotel Diablo by Machine Gun Kelly & Eliot Rahal
☠ ☠ ☠ ☠ ☠
Besides manga, it's been forever since I've picked up a graphic novel. This new one, Hotel Diablo didn't disappoint. I only hope there is more! It felt like watching a series where there could be endless episodes of stories and I love that about it. Because of that, I love how it can switch up fast. It leaves room to have characters you root for and ones you're okay with letting go of. It's dark and twisted with a story plot that keeps me wanting more.
