A Faint Cold Fear by Karin Slaughter
☠ ☠
This is book three of the Grant County series and I'm trying to hold on to it. I have found this to be difficult as the cases are getting more and more far fetched. I mean don't get me wrong this one was too easy but the build up was just far fetched. I kind of hoped for the more far fetched senareo which has left me unsure about this series because I no longer know what would help it. I apprecited the character development that went into the last book and the beginning of this one but then I was back to the usual "I don't like any of these people." I literally thought some of the characters couldn't get worst - but then realized that was false. What I knew about certain characters just completely went of the window with this one. The plot and "twists" just weren't it this time around.
Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins
☠ ☠ ☠ ☠
The sequel to 'The Hunger Games' wasn't a disappointment. If anything it was exactly what I wanted from the first book. It was a touch less of YA while still being YA. I'm intrigued to see how this continues into the third book. Now the victors are living the "victor life" of living lavishly and touring around districts. I enjoyed getting to see more things that you miss from the movies from different districts to even more information about people from the capital. The character development was so good and the seconds games were even more heartbreaking. I knew what to expect for the most part (movie watcher first for this series) but could see where the twists and turns would've really done me in if I hadn't. It's such a good series so far!
Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn
☠ ☠
Where to begin with this one? I don't think I've ever hated characters more than when reading this so that's a new one I guess. That is honestly why it's such a low rating but I also really wanted more from the plot of this story or maybe just the general story writing... I'm confused about the two. It was a rocky start reading Gillian Flynn since this was my first but I'm glad I gave her another shot because this one is by far the worst of hers I have read. The rest have been worth the read since. I recommend one of her others before this one. The plot isn't the most terrible ever but like mentioned could've been better, the characters are awful, and having heavy triggering elements to the story on top of that just was a lot and didn't make it worth the read for me. I kind of wish I would've DNF it.
The Grown Up by Gillian Flynn
☠ ☠ ☠ ☠
This was a great short read! It's a spooky thriller that is easy to get through in one setting since it is definitely a page turner. I loved the mystery to it while being a spooky vibe. This was an unexpected read that continued to unravel into doubt about each part of what I was reading. It kept me on my toes and unable to figure out what was coming next which I have found she is really good at doing.
A Good Girls Guide To Murder by Holly Jackson
☠ ☠ ☠ ☠ ☠
My first read from Holly Jackson and I really enjoyed it! This is a YA read but I found it so entertaining. This story follows a girl researching a murder-suicide local case and while doing so she is trying to prove the "murderer" is innocent. Most of the story is written in her journal form like blog entries or interview style. It kept it fun while being easy and fast to read. I only wonder if the YA will be less with the next books since our characters will be out of school. Either way I'm excited to pick up the next and follow the story. The character are really likable and it's easy to root for them. Although she kept me guessing who could be involved constantly.
